UEFA Euros

Anyone know if any channels in Japan are current carrying the UEFA Championships? I’m pretty miffed that I had to hear the results of the UK Germany game on the news. I really don’t want to go to a sports bar during the pandemic.

I have cable and one sports channel that for some reason only carries the Bundesliga. I guess maybe because they recruit so many Japanese players.

If, as I did, you subscribe to WOWOW On-demand you can can cancel by the end of the same month and the calendar month in which you started effectively free of charge.
Good news for you is it's July 1st. so start now and just be sure to cancel within July.

Bad news, as On-Demand is web streaming you will not be able to get the English Language sub-channel Audio commentary that is available if getting the TV transmission of WOWOW. Not sure if the free trial is possible and I'm sure signup will be a pain.

The good news, it's England. You'll be providing your own commentary throughout the game anyway inbetween rousing choruses of Three Lions.

People have been trying VPNs with BBC/ITV streams but I'm not hearing good things.
Wowow has been as flawless as Sterling's finishing, Grealish's skin or Southgate's squad selections so far.

And just for reference:

Thanks! I’ll try that. Also, sorry-I should’ve said England not UK (American mistake). Respect to all the Celts.

I signed up for WOWOW through the regular TV (BS) transmission. If it's your first time signing up for WOWOW, you'll get a free 14-day trial, which at this point will take you to the end of the tournament. Full English commentary as well. I used up my free trial for the Europa League and Champions League finals so I'm just going to pay for the month.

I signed up for on demand (or thought I did) but have been watching it on the TV just fine! Will cancel after tournament so will effectively have paid 2,400 yen for whole tournament with English commentary. Think that's a reasonably good deal.

I'm not sure if it's exactly legal, but I watched 2 games using ExpressVPN and the BBC iPlayer (you need a VPN to spoof your location within the UK for it). But there is no on-demand and the games are at 1am or 4am...

I use my own way of on-demand but I'm not sure I can recommend something even more illegal than location spoofing... Also the French lost so I have less interest from now.

I'm surprised you got spoiled because JP TV gives absolutely no news about it, even the late night sport shows that talk about Olympic prep games of football completely ignore the Euro. I guess the radio is different.

I did consider signing up for WOWOW like others but, given that all bar a few of the games as you say are on in the middle of the night, I didn’t get round to it. Being Scottish I didn’t miss much…

I'm enjoying the Euros, just record the games and watch the next day while "working" from home. Virtually zero chance of accidentally hearing the score, even if I have to watch the following day. And so nice not being forced to listen to the Japanese commentary like on DAZN with the Premier League.

As an aside, to this day I still don't know why the Japanese commentators call Swedish players with a name ending in ____berg (which is basically more than half the team) _____belly in katakana. I laughed the first time I heard it, but if I'm forced to listen to that all game, I'm tearing my hair out.

I used to think and say the very same until realising that the katakana rendering is actually pretty close to how the Swedes themselves would pronounce it. So that shut me up
