sorry if this has already been discussed, but i recall a retirejapan article where Ben mentioned being able to purchase insurance products within the ideco scheme.
just some background, i am american and a public servant, so i can only contribute 12,000 yen per month.
i don't have many options with the stock market due to the IRS.
Now, I am trying to figure out if I can buy life insurance products with ideco, but havent found any info.
would anyone be kind enough to point me in the right direction?
thanks in advance!

Hi JM
Just checked my Rakuten Securities account, and no insurance products. About the only thing for US taxpayers is a one-year cash deposit fund.
Might be worth doing if you are over 45 and pay a lot of income tax.
Anyone else?

It's very frustrating for me, so I can imagine how frustrating it must be for US taxpayers.judomarshall wrote: ↑Thu Jan 11, 2018 12:10 pm no real solid options for a young american to invest with ideco.
The only thing I can think of is to join these guys and lobby for better tax laws: https://www.americansabroad.org/

You can’t get your iDeCo money until 60 anyway right?
If one were planning to be here until then, renouncing US citizenship could be an option, with obvious pros and cons.
Condolences to all Americans, it’s ridiculous and I feel for you.
