It has worked reliably if slowly in many countries. With travel curtailed, the roughly 4000 yen/month I pay for data does not seem so worthwhile. There are some newer less expensive data plans for the Skyberry, but a few days ago I came across an advertisement for the Muama Ryoko mobile wifi device on sale for 50% off (about 10,000 yen). https://getryoko.com/
The Ryoko seems from the website like a superior and less expensive device with reasonably priced data plans. Does anyone here have experience using the Ryoko mobile wifi?
