Earning free points while investing in mutual funds, what is the best deal out there?

Many of the systems are a bit confusing, and input would be helpful!

1. With Rakuten securities and Rakuten credit card you can invest earn a max of 500 points a month I believe, as well as earn points by keeping funds in a trust

3. With SBI (I do not have an account here), it seems you can earn T-points

There's also SBI + SMBC Mitsui Sumitomo card (三井住友カード).

Starting from 30th. June you can charge up to 50.000 a month to this card for your investments through an SBI account and get 0.5% in VPass points. Those points can also be used to pay through Google or Apple Pay. You can use it for your Tokutei account, normal one (credit card payments), iDeCo, NISA or Tsumitate NISA but not for Junior NISA though.

There is also a promotion going on to get extra points if you use the card during February, March or April of this year with a maximum of 10.000 points (VPoints, Vポイント).

I applied one week ago and it seems I will be getting it someday within this week. I am also using Rakuten card in Rakuten Securities (limit of 50.000 per month). Besides, you can also use Rakuten Points for investments, either combining them with card or for your investments not charged with the card.

so long as you're not letting "gaining points" guide you into poor investments use whatever gives you the best points.

But I've noticed that generally the best points go to things that are not good for your investment... Like setting revolving payments on your credit card, etc... I wonder why

I've gotten some points from my investments in funds and I'll use those, but just watch out for chasing the points and then getting stuck with high expense funds etc, it's the same psychological trap as buying something you didn't NEED on sale for the savings(but you wouldn't have spent anything if you didn't buy it!)

Do not worry, I am just looking to maximize my benefits.

Most of my investments are with Rakuten. I just opened up a Monex account to avoid having all my eggs in one basket so to speak.

After NISA and IDeco I am mostly buying the same mutual funds in my taxable account.

So shintaro (and the youtubers) have the news that Rakuten is making changes to its points system starting August.

It used to be that per 100k in mutual funds they gave out 4 points regardless. When you consider these points as a "return" they consist of 0.048% of your return which while nothing to write home about is free money. When you consider that some funds have management fees below this, Rakuten was giving out free money. Yay!

Well that ends in August. Rakuten has put out new guidance saying that the points are now based on the management fee of the fund (more specifically Rakuten's share of the management fee).



There's now 7 funds that have had their point returns reduced and 3 funds that have had them eliminated.

Now you say, well, its only 10 funds, that's fine. Ah but the devil is in the details.

Everyone's emaxis slim favorites are there and are affected by this change.

On the flip side, if you're one of those people who love active funds, you get upto 20 points per 100k invested! That's pretty good I guess.
