Kokumin kenko hoken

Post by banders »

Can anyone tell me until what age kokumin kenko hoken (national health insurance) contributions must be paid? I read that kaigo hoken is automatically included in those premiums until 64, after which they will be deducted from the kokumin nenkin at source. So does that mean the kokumin kenko hoken contribution no longer need to be paid from 65? And are kaigo hoken contributions payable until death?

I'm paying both... :!:

I think they're two different things--one is your normal health insurance, the other is nursing care (I guess if you become institutionalized, but I'm not sure of the specifics).

It took a few months to get started, but the kaigohoken is taken from pension payments. The other, health/medical insurance is deducted from a bank account I think six times a year (this also took some months to get automated, so there was a payment booklet at first).

You definitely have to pay for kokumin kenko hoken after age 65. You also have to pay for kaigo hoken.

Correction: kokumin kenko hoken is 12 payments/yr. They're numbered in my bank book 1-12. This goes on the calendar year--number 1 was 31 Jan. (2020), and 12 was 04/01/2021. I'm looking forward to this changing come July, when local tax is re-assessed (much less income, so it will go down).

And I said above I'm paying both--I'm 69.

Re: Kokumin kenko hoken - payments after retirement?

Post by HankNeva »

Hi...Can anyone tell me what the approximate monthly Kokumin Kenko Hokken payment would be for a a retired person not working and receiving a small Kyosai Kumia/National pension of 130,000 per month. I'm heading toward not working soon and want to get a clearer view of my montly expenses.

If you know about the Kaigo Hokken that would be interesting too. Before retirement I think it was 17,000 monthly, now semi retired it's 13,000. I'm hoping it goes lower. Actually, I'm not sure why I should be paying either of these at all if I'm only getting a pension this small.
