Beginner Questions About Nisa Purchase Form

Post by donut »

Hello!

This is my first post in the forums :)
I am a first time investor. I bought the Retire Japan NISA book.
I tried to read as much as possible online.

Until recently, I never thought about investing.
I started this year the normal NISA (Not Tsumitate) and bought some things.
This year I just tried around a bit, my goal for next year is to learn more!

I have some questions about the purchase form selection and about investing outside NISA.

Example: Buying eMaxis Slim SP500

1. 買付金額 (Purchase amount)
I wondered, this is completely unrelated to the unit price: 基準価額
So I can put any number here and get a partial investment?
(I already did, just want to confirm it wasn't a mistake)

2. 口座区分 : 特定, 一般, NISA (Account classification: (Special?, General?, NISA)
I always picked NISA. Makes sense.
But what are the other two 特定, 一般?

If I want to invest after I maxed my NISA, which should I pick 特定 or 一般?
If I invest outside the NISA, do I have to worry about tax notice etc?
From what I gather the tax is calculated automatically for the account?

I hope these are not too basic questions. I had even more, but searching the forums, I found answers to the others.

Welcome to the forum and thanks for buying the Guide! Your questions are fine: that is what this forum is for :)

To answer them, yes, when buying a mutual fund you can buy as much as you like and the unit price does not matter.

NISA accounts are tax-free. Tokutei accounts are tax-reporting (and tax-withholding, in the case of the 源泉徴収票あり version). Basically if you hold your investments in one of these accounts your broker will calculate, pay, and report your taxes for you. You don't have to do anything. This is recommended for most people.

Hope that helps!

A fast reply!

So the mutual fund price can be anything. Great!

Regarding the accounts, so I normally use NISA as much as possible.
But if I wanted to invest more, I would choose Tokutei (特定).

Thank you for the answers!
This website and book are very helpful!
I plan to stay around.
