Re: Net Worth Poll

Spending on myself… don’t worry, there’s plenty of that. Those gate ball sticks don’t come cheap. Neither was the custom Hello Kitty artwork on my Harley Low Rider. The loan sharks are circling since the word is out about my growing Bingo losses. And then there’s the dental implants, knee replacements, hair loss treatments…and on yourself too hopefully

How about you? Any changes to your net worth?
It's a trap! They're trying to make you change your long-set plans, cash in, and start timing the market!RetireJapan wrote: ↑Mon Aug 07, 2023 3:02 amPosted this to Twitter last month:AreTheyTheLemmings? wrote: ↑Mon Aug 07, 2023 1:33 am It's been a year and a half since the last post on this thread. "Just updating my monthly spreadsheet and it seems like our net worth is up 60%+ in yen terms since December 2020.
Absolutely insane. Most of that is from the exchange rate.

When I calculate my net worth, I don't include my house even though it is paid off as I will always need somewhere to live. Nor do I include any pensions, just because I treat them as a nice bonus. I know some people include cars and stuff but I don't go in for that either. Basically, I include all my investments, cash and the value of a flat (at the time I bought it) I have in the UK as it is also paid off and will be sold at some point. When I look at all that I am still in the same bracket I was in when I answered this poll, but have crept a bit nearer to the top end of that bracket.northSaver wrote: ↑Tue Aug 08, 2023 2:05 am What is net worth anyway? Does it only include liquid assets that you can cash in right now? But illiquid assets like iDeco, property and businesses are surely worth something, so include them too? And what it you're drawing a pension - how do you include that? What if you aren't drawing a pension but will be soon? Surely that's worth something. But what?
I suppose the question should be: "How many years of spending do you have based on what you will need on top of reliable passive income?" But "reliable passive income" will surely change unless you're already drawing all your pensions, so it's a bit of a moving goal post. To get an accurate number of years you will have to divide it into chunks and include money/income as it becomes available (e.g. iDeCo). I guess that's how some people answered "More than 50 years"
You have lots of USD investments/savings? Pretty much all my money is in world index funds (mostly USD or largely denominated in USD).Roger Van Zant wrote: ↑Wed Aug 09, 2023 1:55 am You have lots of USD investments/savings? I thought you were British.
