Does anybody have any opinion on the new Vector 2022 skin that the Wikimedia Foundation are deploying as the default on their wikis?
You can see a demo here:
Current "old" Vector 2010 (the default on retirewiki.jp):
https://retirewiki.jp/wiki/Main_Page
Vector 2022:
https://retirewiki.jp/wiki/Main_Page?us ... ector-2022
You can also add ?useskin=vector-2022 to the URL of any page to see the page with the new skin.
Edit: clarifying after Gulliver's comment: this only applies to viewing from the Desktop. The mobile skin is unchanged.
* I dislike vast amounts of white space.
* I like keeping things similar in look to wikipedia, as that gives a wiki an air of authority.
These statements may or may not compete; has wikipedia gone for a new look recently?

Yes, Wikipedia is using a new look, so I'm tempted to switch. However, it has a lot of opposition, and I'm not much of a fan myself, so I'll keep the current Desktop theme for now.
Unrelated: I was wondering why we suddenly got a deluge (read: about 30 people) coming to the UK article from YouTube in March. Unfortunately it doesn't tell me *which* video people came from, but this is highly suspect:

In other news:
Kuma has been expanding and improving the UK article as always
https://retirewiki.jp/wiki/United_Kingdom
CAM has made improvements to the Inheritance Tax article, and also improved the article that Kuma started about Obtaining a Japanese passport for a child.
https://retirewiki.jp/wiki/Inheritance_tax
https://retirewiki.jp/wiki/Obtaining_a_ ... or_a_child
I also updated to the latest version of the sotftware, MediaWiki 1.39.3

Link to that YouTube video now present in the wiki article!

I think a board in the forum could be both useful and used.
Although I’ve used the wiki’s Talk function a little, the forum seems a more comfortable place for some postings because:
* Talk pages - oldest comments appear first. Anything said generally lingers!
* Forum - newest comments appear first. Comments quickly get buried.
With the actual articles, any missteps get improved upon, with the older/incorrect/not as good versions quickly buried. Talk pages linger in semi-perpetuity.
Also, looking on Wikipedia, Talk pages don’t always stay civil.

The wiki has been given a makeover, and although I've not been keeping this thread up to date we got some quality additions in 2023.
Here's the full article list:

Happy new year all and all the best for 2024
