Zairyu card request at Hospital
Re: Zairyu card request at Hospital
If the hospital needs ID, they should request it from all patients and not selectively profile them by ethnicity or appearance. I don’t even know how this can be a question in this day and age?
They also shouldn’t demand some residents to produce more ID than others… again it’s simple discrimination.

Indeed. The real injustice isn't that some people get asked to show ID. It's that we can't organise ourselves in such a way that everyone has access to the healthcare they need.

Not making excuses for the situation, but this all goes away next year when My Number cards become the only option for health cards.Deep Blue wrote: ↑Fri Aug 30, 2024 3:32 am If the hospital needs ID, they should request it from all patients and not selectively profile them by ethnicity or appearance. Re: Zairyu card request at Hospital
I had had a hernia operation with them about five years ago, and my son had been taken into their A & E when he had a cycling accident four years ago. I wasn't denied treatment, and I was dealt with promptly. It was more the manner I was asked, while being stitched up and going into my wallet.Bubblegun wrote: ↑Fri Aug 30, 2024 2:47 am I have worked on the other side of this, and have caught quite a few people using the health service illegally. While i understand what people are saying, ithink it's an impossible task for counter staff, to do their job, without offending someone, sometime, and yet, at the the same time expecting them to stop people fraudulently using the health service, and protecting the service for all those who pay into the service. I personally caught several patients who were not entitled to use the service, because the family brought their whole family over from (I wont say which country), fraudulently pretended to have a permanent address, and used the families I.D , and adress to prove residency. Their excuse was, "but i thought we could all use it". The only reaon we caught them was because, the family wanted to change the mothers "outpatient appointment", and had a flight to catch. After we asked them to rebook after her holiday, the family said. "oh no. She doesn't actually live here, She lives in ( insert country). The total cost of treatment is about 20,000+++ (not yen). but it was the taking of another patients slot with the surgeon, nurses and specialist that got me. We also had someone walk off a plane and walk into A&E and they had renal failure. Legally they're were entitled to treatment as an emergency, but they weren't entitled to anything more unless they payed full price. I think Legally we could charge up to 150% of the actual cost. They don't use up a lot of money as a total % of the budget but it is enough to impact the hospital/patient at the local level, who DIDN't get their operation, treatment. So i am happy to provide photo I.D at the local hospital, and they've known me for years so they don't ask anymore as they keep it on file. So the photocopy makes sense to me. The hospital and drug store photo copy our health card, and so long as I see them withing the 3 months, they don't ask again and they are linked together. So it's pretty painless for now.

Oh totally! In that case I be pissed. Nobody should be allowed to rummage through any of your belongings without consent and a witness. The only time we went through anything was when the patient couldn’t communicate.Wales4rugbyWC23 wrote: ↑Fri Aug 30, 2024 4:52 amI had had a hernia operation with them about five years ago, and my son had been taken into their A & E when he had a cycling accident four years ago. Can you tell us which profession went through your wallet? Is
I think A&E allows treatment with or without your card.
Although I can imagine a bunch of foreigners bumping off the hospital, promising to pay then doing a runner, and then management/accountants, and others telling some poor worker at the bottom of the chain to “check” everyone’s I.D /entitlement.
I wonder Is there a cultural difference in how Japanese invade people privacy/personal space (I include wallet as part of our personal space) or do they think they can only do it with foreigners? Mmmmm would they do the exact same the Mr Suzuki?mmmmm

Re: Zairyu card request at Hospital
I agree but some countries don’t have an I.D card system proving residency. And some I.d cards don’t have a photo leaving it open to abuse, but the politicians or administrators don’t want to say to everyone. Photo I.d or I suppose in today’s world finger print tech or facial recognition could be used but that opens up a whole can of worms about privacy, big brother watching us.Deep Blue wrote: ↑Fri Aug 30, 2024 3:32 am If the hospital needs ID, they should request it from all patients and not selectively profile them by ethnicity or appearance. I’d prefer a health card issued every year with photo I.d. Could double up as a driving license cutting costs, combined with my number card or residence. Totally! The discrimination issue could easily be resolved if photo id had to be shown by everyone. But I also understand the other problem. Checking 97%of the patient population to make the 3% patient population comfortable to then try and find the 0.???? that use the health service illegally.
