You seem like quite an optimistic person, usually... could you shed some light on why you think a stock market crash may be "likely"?RetireJapan wrote: ↑Sat Jul 06, 2024 8:51 am And in the likely scenario of a stock market crash and a strengthening yen I estimate we'll be down up to 70%
Or 2000 dot com bubble. I could never understand that,by just saying dot com on the end of your company, suddenly the companies values went up crazy amounts. Even though they never made a profit. I feel the same with AI. AI isn’t suddenly going to start making companies profitable or make money. Right now! The news hype is AI and yet only a few years ago we couldn’t stop hearing about NFTs or bitcoin off the TV.Deep Blue wrote: ↑Mon Jul 08, 2024 8:09 am I don't really feel a market crash is imminent, but probably most people would have said the same in 2007 and 2019.... these sort of events can't be foreseen by 99.99% of us. It is a fact of life that markets do suffer from undue optimism at times and undue pessimism at others. Best advice for most is to ignore all and keep up regular investments without thinking about it. Not checking the markets or one's own investments every week/month/quarter is sound advice for most.....

There is so much "fear porn" out there concerning global economics that I have tried to tune them out. Why live life under constant fear of losing your wealth... but if always-chipper-Ben is mentioning something about a "likely" crash....
**This is a serious question, and I am also serious about you usually being cheerful and optimistic.

The really exciting techical innovations are CRDTs and local-first software. Much faster, more responsive apps that sync with each other, largely removing the server from the equation and ensuring they function even if the company goes bust. .....
