And applied for a postal vote. I found it slightly weird that it seems to imply you are registered at a UK address, as it needs one to identify the constituency, so input the one I was previously registered at, even though it's been decades since I've lived there.

As others have mentioned, with the FPTP system it's dubious my vote - even if deployed tactically - will have much sway in the solidly one-party constituency of Tweedledum-on-the-Bypass, but it's the principle which counts.

... and somewhat disappointing. OK, maybe I should have registered earlier, but what force of nature means they have to wait almost 3 whole weeks before they can post out further ballots? I checked the website and don't see any obvious information about this.

Having had our sacred right to vote finally restored, it turns out there's no point in doing so, as it won't arrive in time. Hmm.

I successfully applied to register as an overseas voter.
I have an email saying "your application to register as an overseas voter has been received".

Question:
Do i need to wait for my application to be approved before I can apply for a postal/proxy vote?

Because the web page and email seen keen for me to "apply now for a proxy/postal vote".. But I'm worried about breaking things..

Bit of a shock, looks like the French will be voting about the same time as us Brits. Thankfully the far right (Farage and his Reform party) might get one seat in the UK.. whereas the French far right could do a lot better.

French here — I remember voting in Canada. I think some Canadians didn't like that as the French embassy asked and obtained the permission to use a school to conduct the vote.
In Japan, I'm not aware of the French authorities using public buildings. We vote at the embassy, or by Internet when possible (And it is for the coming legislative election, but usually not for the presidential one.)
