Taking Japanese citizenship might be something I'll consider in my 60's or 70's, but probably not for the time being.
I wouldn't want to give up British citizenship until there is almost zero chance of me returning to live there, but on the other hand I don't want to have to worry about renewing my passport/residence card or being at the mercy of changes to immigration policy when I'm no longer physically or mentally capable of moving back to the UK.
Out of interest, does any one know what effect being retired has on applying for citizenship? I assume they take your current work situation into account if you are still working, but I wonder if being retired works as an advantage or disadvantage.

I naturalized last year. I am still in my early 30's but happy to answer any questions on this matter.

One possible downside is that it signs you up to the exit tax, which doesn't apply if you're on a working visa.
Exit Tax applies to PRs and persons on spousal visas also.

Thanks for the correction, have clarified the original. I spend too much time reading this stuff. By working visa, I meant employment-based, rather than personal visas such as spouse and PR, but yes that phrasing was quite misleading.
