Simple question. How would you rank these situations in order of favorability with the emaxis slim all world fund?
- Weak yen, bear market
- Strong yen, bear market
- Weak yen, bull market
- Strong yen, bull market
It doesn’t matter much as I’m going to stay the course and just keep investing monthly. Just curious.

Assuming you are earning yen and buying foreign stocks... strong yen/bear market.
Weak yen/bull market sucks.
What we have now: weak yen/bear market -they basically cancel each other out.
If you are selling your investments to live off them, weak yen/bull market is great, and strong yen/bear market sucks.

- Weak yen, bear market - Buy more Dometic Assets and some Overseas Assets

What would qualify as domestic asset, if I am looking for index funds?

Any fund that is made up of Japanese stocks, or bonds, if you prefer?
You can search /screen based on domestic.
Here is the example of Rakuten's domestic equity funds for the NISA.

TOPIX, JPX, Nikkei 225 are key words but you can just choose equity, Japan and index in the search tool and then rank them by lowest fee.

Is there an option to actively day trade stocks and benefit from the tax free initiative?
If yes, which broker will offer the most tickers and spreads and where can I find some information to read about this. Thanks.

Thanks for the quick reply.
So, what options would I have if I wanted to trade stocks while living in Japan?
Just get a broker, trade, submit earnings to the tax office yearly, rinse repeat?

1. Are you American? - If so you can only trade Japanese shares. No ETFs, PFICs etc.
2 - Most exchanges have accounts that will report and calculate your taxes and pay them for you in the event of capital gains upon sale. You can also choose accounts that will B. Report and not pay or C. due neither.

1. Not American, fortunately.
2. Tax Withholding if I'm not mistaken. Based on the list you shared I guess my IBKR account in my home country isn't suitable.
