I normally use USD
If you have a USD income source, that makes sense. You were talking about GBP above, so if you had a cheaper alternative I wanted to know about it 🧐

The GBP was just what Wise was showing when I grabbed the quote. Sorry to mislead you.

An Aussie friend relies on the Wise debit card when traveling in the EU for extended periods and is a satisfied customer.

If I dont have the local currency in my Wise account (say I have USD, but not Yen), is it better for me to convert into Yen before using the card here?

Or is it OK to let Wise automatically do the conversion? (This would assume the conversion rate would be about the same, whether I do it or they do it).

Thanks.

Last time I went abroad I used my Mastercard CC and paid it all off in one go. So no interest, but I guess I got screwed on the exchange rate. Is the wise *much* cheaper as a debit card?

Suggest using the Revolut App & Card. Same principle, but higher free allowance per month. Look into it, setup is also free and easy.
