I just checked the health insurance deduction for bonus payments for two years when my bonuses were wildly different and in both cases the insurance deduction was 184,506. I get a bonus once a year but it makes me wonder if getting a bonus twice a year (which is the practice for most employees at my employer) would have resulted in paying that maximal deduction twice. Thanks! I’m inclined to believe it’s them erring on the side of caution with the withholding rates.
BTW, As covered in the post above I’ve identified the cause of the “extra”/“excessive” health deductions in my personal case. (Bonus payments)..

My N2 Japanese tells me that.. The total bonus “cap” for health ins deductions is set annually at 5.73mil yen. Either one or multiple payments. Anything about that is ignored.TokyoWart wrote: ↑Sat Jan 27, 2024 2:56 amI just checked the health insurance deduction for bonus payments for two years when my bonuses were wildly different and in both cases the insurance deduction was 184,506. Do you have a break down of which deductions make up the 184,506?
Look at the 50man calc on the link I provided in an earlier post. This one.

That shows how it “should” be calculated. I managed to match the deductions I see in my case..

The three categories are: Basic Medical, Latter Day Care, and Long Term Nursing Care (40-65) all lumped together.

Unfortunately, I don't. It just appears as a single line item on my salary slip. I am certainly well below the 5.73 million cap in health insurance premiums. Guess I should be happy that my bonus only comes once a year.Do you have a break down of which deductions make up the 184,506?

Not sure if this is of interest to anyone, but the maximum per month is supposed to be for each household. I found out this year that the korei category is separate from regular health insurance so they don't care if a household goes over the maximum amount, if one of the members is in the elderly category (it's a separate calculation.)
