How about this?

The New NISA lifetime allowance will be ¥1.8×10⁷.
That is split into a ¥3.6×10⁶ annual allowance, which in turn is split into ¥1.2×10⁶ regular and ¥2.4×10⁶ growth allowances.
¥6.0×10⁶ of the ¥1.8×10⁷ lifetime allowance must be from the regular allowance, which means you need to make regular contributions for at least 5 years to max out the lifetime allowance.

As opposed to ¥360x10⁴, etc.

For me using small numbers in Japanese is fine. EG 25 man, 50 man,100 man,,, it can see when we get to big numbers, I do pull out the calculator. eg 3000man.Now when we get into the OKU,,,, thats way beyond me. Those numbers in English are more like government budget figures. eg 1 billion pounds is something i only ever hear of in the news and is unrelatable. So 1 billion yen doesn't allow me to have an anchor in my mind. I can't remember which book I read about prices and values having an anchor. But apart from that I just have to pull out the calculator and do the math, 5000 man =50,000,000.
If anything it makes me understand how difficult it could be for Japanese students switching to English or people with dyscalculia.
Kind of like metric for americans...?

I also have trouble figuring out the value of something with six or seven zeros (and usually commas in weird places).

I’ve wondered why Japanese didn’t simply restructure the currency to include a smaller denomination like the US or Euro cent. So, ¥120 would be: 1 yen and 20 cents, written ¥1.20 (or whatever they wanted to call it).

Would this cause a Y2K type crisis due to all of the reprogramming that would be needed?

Printing the new currency would probably be the easiest part.

Also, I’m guessing it’s not a high priority for the average Taro.

In the UK, we'd have the Weights and Measures People on them... ;-)

I guess that was (Original) Tea-Party Shrink-Flation ;-)

it doesn't help in Japanese numbers are grouped at thousand so we end up with nonsense like 1,300万 which comma moves when expanded (13,000,000).

And yes, it also still takes me a while to process anything more than 9万. It's only very recently got used (a bit) to converting 1000万 to 10M due to looking at house prices.

I suppose it'd be a bit easier for me if the grouping is on myriad (1,0000) so I'll be forced to think in myriad (or maybe not. idk).
