My 2021 income was 2.8 million. And my 2022 income was 3.1 million. So I was expecting a minor fluctuation. But not 3000 more every month.
Or is that just it? Someone mentioned 10% and now I’m realising that the extra income was 300,000 and that 1% of that is 30,000 which is the total extra I’d have to pay in health insurance.
But then why would my residence tax go down?
Are you paying into IDECO? That would reduce your taxable income, but not your income subject to health insurance premiums.

I just got my NHI bill.

I switched to kokumin from April (had stayed on my former employers' shakai hoken for a year after leaving that job).

As head of household, I get the bill for my wife and I (her taxable income is much larger).

Our annual health insurance bill is... 1.04m yen

Argh. I'm a fan of the medical system here, but this is painful. I think our combined taxable income is around 8m yen. I'll have to look at the stuff they sent us more carefully.
