I actually "upgraded" to Olive.
For me it's pretty convenient but I might not have everybody's requirements.
I have a sole proprietorship (Kojinjigyo)
Before:
- Personal account SBI (Neobank)
- IDECO/NISA/Investment account SBI
- Credit card Platinum NL SMBC (¥33,000/year, 5%points on investment at SBI up to 2,500 points/months, 2% points)
- Back up credit card Recruit MUFG (1.2% points)
- Business account PayPay bank
- Credit card business gold NL SMBC (free after spending ¥1mn the first year)
After:
- Olive account Platinum (¥33,000/year, 5%points on investment at SBI up to 2,500 points/months, 2% points)
- IDECO/NISA/Investment account SBI
- Back up credit card Recruit MUFG (1.2% points)
- "Business" account is a second personal SMBC account in the same SMBC branch
- Credit card business gold NL SMBC (free after spending ¥1mn the first year) withdrawing on the second SMBC account
For me the benefits are:
- to have all my current accounts and credit cards consolidated with SMBC, all under one app on my phone
- easy and free transfers between Business/Personal accounts (before I had wire fees)
- Can receive international payments in my "business" account (couldn't at PayPay bank)
- Only 2 cards in my wallet (Platinum and business gold), with the convenience of the olive platinum (credit/ATM/Pay using V points)
- Free transfers between SMBC personal and SBI investments. Plus I can see my SBI investments in the SMBC app
I was surprised, but you can actually create 2 personal accounts at SMBC. You can assign a credit card to each of them separately. However only One of these account can be changed to "olive".

Hmm so one thing I am confused about is, I have both SMBC and SBI neobank accounts at present. I don’t have an SBI securities account… yet. But even if I get one I won’t be making it my main account.
Are SMBC and SBI neobank doing some kind of tie up here with this Olive thing?
