It is better to have several bank accounts or more. If there is a problem with a bank or someone gets hold of your bank card - your financial security isn't so much at risk.

I know one guy in Japan whose bank account was cleaned out when he lost his card - his PIN was his birthday.

I have two main ones: one gets my salary for a few hours before I move it to investments and my main account, and the other I use for cash withdrawals and paying credit cards.

The mortgage and property tax come out of the first one.

My wife also had several accounts.
