1. Every 2-3 years, switch your internet provider.
This is cool and all but keep in mind that if you are a member of any one of the private sites that aid in "a life on the ocean waves" with catchphrases like, "Aaaaaarrrrrgh... Ahoy, me hearties!" etc., then you may very well lose your membership as they require an IPv4 address and most new internet subscriptions come with an IPv6 address (I think)...
Isn’t this a non issue with IPV4 over IPV6 solutions that just about every carrier provides? I could be wrong!
Honestly, I'm not 100% sure, and don't read Japanese well enough to understand the ISP info' online...
I did get a call from OCN the other week asking if I wanted to save ¥2~3k a month on my internet bill, and that was if I agreed to sign up to an IPv6 address... Maybe they were offering IPv4 over IPv6, and something got lost in translation...
A ¥2~3k saving isn't worth the faff, hassle and worry of changing the setup I have and that I know works very well...

I work in a job where I essentially get paid to waste lots of time.
Since about half a year ago, I am always logged into the survey site
https://prolific.co/ when at work.
Whenever a survey pops up, I can join it and complete it straight away.
I cash out any money to my UK bank account.
I have made about GBP200 over six months.
Not much, but pays for my class 2 UK pension contributions, and then some!

I don't recommend this (and actually find the idea kind of icky) but you could buy appliances and stuff off of furusato nozei and resell on mercari. Its free money if you can get over the fact that you're breaking the spirit of furusato nozei and basically trying to make money off of donations.
In the good ol' days of Furusato Nozei you could get gift cards and travel vouchers worth up to 50% of your donation and then walk down to the local money launderer *cough* ticket shoppe and exchange them for 95-98% of their face value in cold hard cash. Good times!

I am all about sign-up bonuses, incentives, and paid surveys.
I am not so sure about the Rakuten mobile suggestion. Seems a bridge too far for me. A bit disingenuous.
To be 100% transparent, I got the points and sold the phone that I bought from them, but I'm still sticking with Rakuten Mobile as a paying customer. That may change if their network doesn't improve by January-February, but they're cheap enough and I got a good deal. I still think they're absolutely worth trying--they're giving you free money to give them a chance.
