So I have to pay the furikomi charge every time I move funds to the Monex account? That sucks.

What I’ll probably end up doing is opening an account at Mizuho, then physically go to the ATM and deposit the money every time.

Most decent online banks give you a number of free furikomis a month. Usually paying in salary / keeping a high enough balance gets you more than you need. Does yours?

You know what, you’ve convinced me. I’m going to leave my local bank and switch to an online bank. Thanks so much for your help everyone! It’s hugely appreciated.

Just make sure your online bank has connections to all the utility companies you use for direct debits. Most have decent coverage now but there are gaps! Information will be available on their websites.
