I am trying to put my emotions aside as well but when I see the Nikkei all time high in this crisis it's hard.
Is selling to secure some capital gains and use that money to invest every month a bad strategy?

We pretty much stick to the plan. People have been saying we're in a bubble since 2012, and anyone who sat out since then is never getting back in. Just carry on buying things every month.
Oh that was me 2012! I moved money back in later in 2013 but missed a lot. Learned my lesson.

I too feel a bit uncomfortable with elevated levels but why not increases your cash allocation while you keep investing? I’m still buying some value plays and putting a few moonshots out but my cash allocation keeps growing in anticipation of shopping....someday.

Trimming existing gains is certainly valid as well. I have been doing this with a few stocks that had a good run and I wanted to book the earnings and remove a little risk and used those profits to increase my cash allocation as well as to increase my allocation in value.

Saw this quote in a newsletter today and thought it was very apt considering the times.

“Nothing so undermines your financial judgment as the sight of your neighbor getting rich.”—J.P. Morgan.

Stumbled on this blog post and reading list yesterday, somewhat relevant to this thread. Although it's more cautioning against recklessness.
