You might want to talk to them about this and see if they can change it to katakana. I have a Monex account registered in my full name (including middle name) in katakana with spaces in between. It's the same as the furigana for my bank account so I have no problems transferring money.

Edit: Come to think of it, I might have registered the katakana as an alias when I took out my house loan.

Thanks, but this won't work, as on Monex's site, you cannot put a space between first and middle name, meaning it won't match with my bank account name. I am so pissed off, that I am this close to just telling them to F off and I will go with Rakuten instead. This means I won't be able to access the eMaxis All Country, but I'll just have to find something which Rakuten offers through iDeCo which is as good. Any suggestions?

I've logged in and I'm looking at my account now. My name is registered as [katakana last name] [space] [katakana first name] [space] [katakana middle name], so it's definitely possible. Are you using a full width space?

edit: is this just for the ideco or is the problem in opening an account with them? I opened an account using my full name, but I have my ideco elsewhere

Good question. I am not 100% sure. I sent off the documents for both the iDeCo account creation and also the regular Monex account creation at the same time....

Yeah, Sony Bank ignored my requested name and created the '2ndsurnamename 1stsurname' monstruosity that is now on my cashcard and bank account...

Ahh... the infamous 'middle name' I have had so many problems with the most notable being with this registering a birth at the ward office- three hours..... and they still got it wrong, it had to be corrected by the British Embassy and then I had to go through the whole process again. However, second time round with my second child they had made a space for the middle name in the application form. God knows what they would do with Indonesians who only have one name.

I don't have a middle name but I have a double-barelled surname of which I prefer to use just the first half. Of course few institutions including my employer care about this preference

Oh, that's weird. I asked my employer to deduct the 12,000 directly from my salary, but they said they don't do that, and that it had to come from my bank account. Monex also asked me for my bank account details. Maybe, for some reason, I cannot get the tax rebate?

This happens at year-end, after your iDeco has been established. You administer the fund yourself.

That is why it is I-Deco and not a DC.

You can file the taxes yourself using the E-Tax system.

Thanks! I am hoping I can just have my company take care of things. They do the same with my earthquake insurance each year. I receive a postcard in the mail around November, which I then hand to my HR department along with my 年末調整 documents. If I can do something similar with the iDeCo letter, that would be great.

Yes, this is possible and the easiest way to handle this for people with an employer that does their end of year adjustment for them.

Heh, I could talk about this all day

When I married my wife she already had three kids, so I wanted to be able to use the same surname as them for official situations (school, ward office, etc.). Accordingly I changed my official alias from the katakana of my name to my wife's surname in kanji and 勉 for my given name. This is a common name here that can be read as either Tsutomu or Ben.

In order to register it (this was about 16 years ago I think) I had to prove that I was using the name (this is kind of a chicken-egg situation) but it was easy to do this by changing some of our utility bills to that name and then presenting them as proof to the ward office. Once I had the alias officially registered I was able to get it put on my driving license (in brackets after my alphabet name) and alien registration card. Sadly the zairyu cards no longer allow this, but My Number cards do, so I also have my alias on my paper My Number notification slip. I have a bank account under my alias in kanji, and most of my contracts (insurance, etc.) are in that name.

I use my alias for daily life now, including most social situations, and my 'English' name basically just at work. I think there is a good chance I will naturalise, at which point I will just use the alias as my new official name for everything.

Don't remember ever having a problem, and it's much easier to use a common Japanese surname here than my monstruosity of a double-barrelled name in katakana.

Well, I haven't naturalised yet so no reason for that. I still use my original name on social media, etc.

My family is pretty pragmatic though, and I don't imagine there will be a problem. I'm just waiting for the Brexit debris to settle (I'm hoping there will still be some way to keep my EU passport) before going through with naturalising.
