I cannot register with Monex as I have a middle name.
Their system cannot accept a middle name, unless they add it to your first name without a space.
Of course, this is different from the name registered with my bank, which means I cannot have money taken each month for an iDeCo.
This is Japan in 2020 everyone.
No wonder they are losing so much business to Singapore, China and Hong Kong.
{UPDATE}
So, I went to my bank and asked them if they could accept the fact that my iDeCo account name and my bank name would be different.
Bank name : Hawking Stephen William
iDeCo name : Hawking Stephenwilliam
They said yes!
Now, I must admit I am still skeptical:
1) I've lived in Japan long enough to know better (it seemed to good to be true)
2) The two ladies discussing my case talked among themselves without consulting the geriatric male managers behind them.
All I can do is proceed and then see that happens the first time I try to send money from/to my bank.

I found Monex had the best customer service of the 'big three', but I guess everyone's mileage will differ. My personal ranking (best to worst) is Monex -> Rakuten -> SBI.

For the middle name thing, I think you need to replace MONEX with Japan

Yeah, Sony Bank ignored my requested name and created the '2ndsurnamename 1stsurname' monstruosity that is now on my cashcard and bank account...

It is so strange how they are flexible with other things.RetireJapan wrote: ↑Thu Dec 03, 2020 11:52 am Yeah, Sony Bank ignored my requested name and created the '2ndsurnamename 1stsurname' monstruosity that is now on my cashcard and bank account...
My wife kept her maiden name. Hanako Yamada.
However, she was able to get two Gold cards (Rakuten/Amazon) under my name with Hanako Smith.
That is not her legal name!
They do not care. They simply said she cannot have Hanako Yamada...

Ironically Monex were willing to let me use my Japanese alias when I opened my account

You might want to talk to them about this and see if they can change it to katakana. I have a Monex account registered in my full name (including middle name) in katakana with spaces in between. It's the same as the furigana for my bank account so I have no problems transferring money.Roger Van Zant wrote: ↑Thu Dec 03, 2020 10:26 am I cannot register with Monex as I have a middle name.

Edit: Come to think of it, I might have registered the katakana as an alias when I took out my house loan.

Re: MONEX is crap **Avoid**
Thanks, but this won't work, as on Monex's site, you cannot put a space between first and middle name, meaning it won't match with my bank account name. I am so pissed off, that I am this close to just telling them to F off and I will go with Rakuten instead. This means I won't be able to access the eMaxis All Country, but I'll just have to find something which Rakuten offers through iDeCo which is as good. Any suggestions?fools_gold wrote: ↑Thu Dec 03, 2020 12:07 pmYou might want to talk to them about this and see if they can change it to katakana. But if your registered bank name and the above name are not the same, don't you run into the same problem I have?
