Hi all,
Just wondered if anyone had any advice on having a will drawn up in Japan? I have just started my own family here, and have read that it is a good idea to draw up a will at this stage. My assets are mostly split between the UK (savings accounts only) and Japan (savings and investments), as well as a recently set up IB account.
A year ago I visited a 'financial adviser' who also advised producing a will and put me in touch with an international will writing company, but the price quoted, despite it being deemed a 'simple' will, seemed ridiculous (£1000+)! I know in the UK there are charities that will produce a will for free (hoping you to include a gift amount to them in it), and other places where it costs no more that £100, so am highly sceptical of something that costs 10x that.
Any advice welcome.

Yep, I'm going to get mine redone soon. Last time I just went through a law firm in Leeds that had an online service.
For a simple will (mine is basically 'everything to my wife', or our kids if she is not around) that should be fine. Be aware that as a non-Japanese citizen in Japan your estate will be handled according to 'home' country law, not Japanese law.

Brilliant - thanks all for the quick responses. I did do a quick search for 'will' before starting a thread, but soon realised my folly.
