Go To Travel campaign

Post by KyushuWoozy »

I understand some people here don't think it's a good idea to travel now (so you may want to skip this thread). For those who think it is okay to travel now (the Japanese government for example) here is a list of 16,000+ hotels participating in the Go To Travel campaign which offers up to 35% discount:

https://goto.jata-net.or.jp/assets/docs ... kuhaku.pdf

Irritatingly, it's just a list of names. No website, email address, street address or phone numbers

Here is the official website with all the details of how to apply for the discounts etc: https://goto.jata-net.or.jp. It's a total bureaucratic nightmare (surprise surprise) but we just booked a hotel in Beppu with 35% discount.

Hope this helps.

PS: although I'm a travel agency owner, I'm sharing this as a matter of information; we don't make a dime from this.

Thanks, we are planning a trip to Tokushima (situation permitting) next month to adopt a dog, so may well make use of this for accommodation.

Last Sunday the wife, daughter and I went to Maiko, near Akashi bridge for a one nighter, using the Go To campaign.Twas nice, with dinner and breakfast included, only costing about 21,000 yen after the 35% off. I'm sure the hotel appreciated people staying there. The staff have mouths to feed too.

People from Tokyo are still excluded, correct?

We've made a couple of bookings for hotels through Rakuten Travel with the 35% discount automatically applied which have gone smoothly.
One other booking we had to apply for the refund afterwards, which required scanning quite a lot of documents for the online application.
I assume it'll probably take a month or two to get processed.

We stayed a couple of nights in Yufuin last week and were the only ones in the Ryokan both nights.
With almost zero foreign tourists at the moment I can imagine that weekdays are going to be really quiet in a lot of the main tourist destinations for the foreseeable future.

FYI if you book through agoda.com then the discount will be automatically applied for eligible hotels, as long as you can prove you are not a Tokyo resident. Used it for a business trip last week, got a 80m2 corner suite room in Osaka for ¥7000 per night, good stuff.
