First purchase outside of iDeco and Nisa. (Regular Account)

Post by Kanto »

I am planning to make my first purchase outside of my tax-advantaged accounts.

30万-eMAXIS Slim 全世界株式(オール・カントリー)
20万ーたわらノーロード 先進国債券

I have 2 quick questions.

1. Do I have the right kind of account to make filing taxes a bit easier? (see attached image).

2. My understanding is that these funds are bought at the end of the day after trading is over. Is there any data to suggest that there might be a slightly more optimal day to purchase?

Also if anyone has any feedback on my fund choices or general advice I would be more than happy. I am currently maxing both my iDeco and Nisa monthly.

Looks good I think! My reading of that is that you have a tax-deducting and declaring taxable account, so they will do your taxes for you and in principle you don't need to do anything else in terms of filing taxes.

No idea about timing, I just buy when I have money ;)

There is some evidence for the US market that stocks tend to be down on Monday and tend to go up on Fridays so Monday might be a better day to buy. In practice I always just buy as soon as I have funds in order to resist the temptation to market time.

For international funds the price is fixed on the next day. Also, the US markets are a day behind. So, if the stocks in the US were down on Monday, this would show up in the fund on Tuesday. To get Tuesday's prices, you'd have to place your order on Monday. (I think!)

Also eMAXIS Slim 先進国債券インデックス has a slightly cheaper ER (0.154% vs. 0.187%). Otherwise it all looks good.

Thank you! That fund does look better. I decided to go with it! 8-)

It takes 5 days for the funds to show up, but the order is executed the the next working day (for orders placed before 3pm). That's the day when the price is set.
From my order history: Order date 3/31, execution date 4/01. delivery date 4/07. Price 9,029 :)
This was in a NISA, but orders in a tokutei account don't seem to be delivered any quicker.

I was thinking about hte timing as well this week. Especially in these trouble times it is hard to say. I would not buy on a friday anymore because the orders will be placed on Monday and many things can happen in the week-ends. I now prefer to see what is happening on Monday and order in the Monday afternoon or Tuesday so then the order is completed in the middle of the week or so.
