With my 5 year old, I've only ever spoken English to him from day one. When we're together as a family, wherever we are, we speak almost 90% English. If the wife is alone with the kids she tends to speak Japanese... It was really tough at first when he was starting to string sentences together as his Japanese was developing way faster due to being around it for the majority of everyday with his mum, at kids clubs etc. It wasn't great seeing him have conversations with his mum, but not me...
Anyway, we stuck with the routine plus I found some great English programs he enjoyed and right now, the kid is near fluent -could talk your ears off! Hahaha! Plus he can switch between the two languages effortlessly; it's really amazing to see...

These are the programs he loved watching growing up, from baby to now:
In the Night Garden,
Something Special,
Show Me Show Me,
Down on the Farm,
Peppa Pig,
Mr. Bloom's Nursery,
Blaze & The Monster Machines,
Apple & Onion,
Cupcake & Dino

Once he got onto Peppa Pig & Blaze, his English was just developing exponentially...

We have a 1 year old girl and we're doing the exact same with her...
Fingers crossed!

You are watching these on Youtube? Or you bought the DVD?
My sister also told me that *Fireman Sam* was a good one

A lot of those were watched using the BBC iPlayer, or I had people send me copies of their DVDs from home, OR, I just "found" them on the internet...
I'm sure you could probably find a whole bunch of episodes up on YouTube, and I think some are on Netflix...
