Industry specific index ETFs

Post by TelecInvestor »

Hi everyone,

In addition to my market index funds through my SBI account and some individual stocks, I was wondering if anyone came across in how to trade through some of the US based ETFs that track certain industries.

I've been investigating quite a lot and had some very good returns on some individual companies but I feel I would maximize returns and decrease volatitlity by using certain ETFs instead. However this don't seem to be tradable at SBI. I don't mind opening a new account somewhere else, so feel free to let me know. I've known Interactive Brokers (and actually checked the guide that Ben wrote some time ago) but I wanted to know more options.

In case you are asking, these are the ones I'm currently checking :D

Code: Select all

ROBO
ARKK
XLK
SKYY
WCLD
XLY
THNQ
CLOU
ONLN
XHB
XBI
OGIG
ARKW
IBB
Thanks!

Wow, just moments after posting this I found the collection of 海外ETFs that SBI actually deal with:
https://search.sbisec.co.jp/v2/popwin/i ... 0_etf.html

And all can be nicely filtered by country or sector :)

Still open to listening other options but this info is quite nice :D

You can check out the Examis NEO funds-> https://emaxis.jp/lp/neo/index.html?emaxis

They are all themed on industry.

I am attracted to the Fintec fund myself.

Cool!
Is a management fee of ~0.8% a bit steep though? Is that likely to come down like other eMaxis Slim funds have?
I'm not seeing anything regarding renewable energy...
Does anyone know of a fund that covers that industry?
Thanks!

They are more managed, specialized funds. Under 1% for such a fund is not too unreasonable.

Checking the first fund with the highest net assets (日興・DWS・ニューリソース・ファンド) and the management fee is ~1.8%... Ouch.

It is a pretty old article actually, there are probably some better sources out there.

It mentions 2 other funds at the bottom, global warming and an eco fund. I just checked and it looks like both have already been liquidated!

Are you looking for ethical investment opportunities? I would we warry of renewables simply because of the lobbying power of the fossil fuel industry. Just look at their influence on solar in the U.S.

Just a thought.

Just looking at some potential side investments...
I personally can't imagine the global renewable energy market doing anything but growing in the next 20 years, no?
How about this fund? iShares S&P Global Clean Energy Fund ETF
Those other eMaxis NEO funds are also very tempting, but like someone else stated, maybe i'll wait till the value drops...

All things being equal, it should be a growth sector. However, there are so many complicating factors. I do not think it is that simple on the face of things. Government regulation, billions in fossil fuel lobbying, poor grid infrastructure, red tape, expense, and a lack of options for consumer-level solutions. With the US. being only half of the holdings, you also have to consider the state of these things in other countries.

I do not see anything wrong with the fund, but there is a lot of money and influence making the opposite bet.

Just a thought.
