Newbie - but this is a very useful thread, thanks for contributing.
So far have applied for the METI 1 million, and local ward offer interest free loan of up to 5 million.
Also tried for rent delay (we live in UR apartment) but that was turned down.
Have heard other Tokyo wards have a hardship fund you can apply for.

On the way to Wakayama yesterday for a one night stay,got an email from Kyufukin on a Sunday, saying our application was lacking details and would need to be submitted again.Talking about numbers not matching and all kinds of B.S. Yet in filing our tax forms had no problems.Either they want to make it really cumbersome that you give up or because I'm a foreigner they don't wanna give any money.Or both.P'O'd whatever way.

Right now, I am aware of the following potential financial assistance:

1. 100,000 yen payout to every resident of Japan, including children. Apply online or wait until you receive the postal application from your local government.
2. 1m or 2m payment to self-employed/small businesses. Need to show a drop in income (month this year vs. month last year). The payout is capped at 1m for sole proprietor or 2m for small business, or 12x your monthly loss, whichever is smaller.
3. possible rent subsidy (not sure of the details on this one, but I heard up to 500,000 yen a month for six months)
4. grant for closing over Golden Week/state of emergency. This depends on local government. Sendai is offering 400,000 yen, or up to 800,000 yen for multiple branches/locations.
5. loans of various types. Possibly no-interest, no collateral, and maybe even restricted to the business (ie no personal liabilty). Haven't looked into this year. Might also need a 50% loss of income.
6. wage support for furloughed staff: up to 90 or 100% of wages for furloughed staff. This seems like an absolute pain to apply for, and few people have actually gotten the money yet.

4. Rent subsidy/Grant if you closed over the state of emergency: We just applied for ours. I am not sure if it is national, prefectural or city wide, but it is 80% of our rent, which I think is quite generous. They really do go through the rental contracts with a tooth comb- so I have to go back tomorrow with a few more documents, it should be OK though. The funny thing is they asked for absolutely no proof that we had actually closed... so if effect any business can apply for it. It really is helicopter money. My only advise is to go there, because even if you are Japanese there will be some document you will be missing. The deadline for our area is this Friday.

I went again this morning and handed in the last few documents. Coincidentally my accountant came round before for our monthly chat and she told that the rent support is taxable the family support won't be, so it comes in roundabouts.

Whether they're institutionally racist or not I've no idea.

Anyway, hopefully you can resubmit your data fixing whatever they said was wrong, good luck. The prize is definitely worth the chase.

Thanx for that. What happens, is when you check your "my page" application, there's a red square showing at the top,indicating your application is being dealt with.When the square goes,your application has been approved and you'll receive the money the next day.

And yeah,it's not a loan.Just the money promised! Hope yous get soon.

With the exception of the family support and government loans most of these government subsidies and grants will be counted as part of your salary when you file your tax return next year. I recommended the rental support to a fellow school owner, and he wouldn't take it because of this and he suffered quite a reduction of turnover.
