Deal All,
It coming up to the time of tax reporting season, I just wanted to know if anyone could tell me an idiot proof way of applying for furusato nozei. I know blog posts have come up about furusato nozei before, but nothing really about the application procedure. I thought about it last year but I got all of my income tax rebate back last year and my city tax was quite reasonable, so it was not really worth it. However, I think things will be different this year.
Any advise would be appreciated.

I think you might be too late for the painless version (I made the same mistake when I used furusato nozei in 2017). If you buy before the deadline the municipality you buy from does your tax return. If you miss the deadline or want to buy from more than half a dozen places or so, you have to do it yourself.
Even going to the tax office was fairly painless: https://www.retirejapan.com/blog/filing ... -in-japan/
I haven't bothered with furusato nozei since though

So I should go to the tax office after my tax return has been submitted (my accountant prepares mine) and they will help me out? of course after the tax return season rush has died down. I am just idiot proofing myself.

In that case I presume your accountant should be able to do it for you
