We used Mizuho for a small KK.
It wasn't great. Quite old-school.
Had to pay around 3,000 yen a month for access to the online banking, which was all in Japanese and looked like it was built in the '90s...
Aiming to retire at 60 and live for a while longer. 95% index funds (eMaxis Slim etc), 5% Japanese dividend stocks.

I still use them and I'm generally happy.
Thanks, I've only had positive reports so I'll go with them. I'll report back if the account opening is as easy as they say: "Just need a driving license, Account opened the next day." This would be a great contrast to our Rakuten corporate account which was a right royal pain in the ass.

Exactly! That's why i'm looking for a modern online bank and not a traditional dinosaur. I'd definitely much rather spend that 36,000 a year on marketing.

We've used MUFG for 16 years now. Not the best online experience, but not bad enough to make me wanting to change.

We get a call every time we're receiving a payment from abroad and have to confirm why we are getting paid and the we want the money.
Ridiculous, but just a formality really.

To send money abroad, we should go in person, with ID and invoices etc etc, nonsense.
We use WISE for that.

Mizuho used to do this for our company as well. After a while, they must have got bored of it because they stopped. I think it coincided with COVID19 and some staff not being in the office. It was their anti money-laundering effort, but it was certainly nicer to not have that regular call from them.

Account up and running. Took 30 minutes on my phone (with GPT-kun assistance) and 5 minutes on the ID app. Much better than traipsing down to my local bank with stamp and handwritten forms.

Did you need any company documents?

No, not required to upload anything. Just input company details.
