I'm not gonna tell you to stay in a bad situation but do know that a 5 year history of working for the same company looks better to the MOJ than a month in a new one.
You are right, but somewhat offset by any new position potentially being with a larger company offering shakai hoken. I would be more focused on improving my work situation in the OP's shoes, and maybe holding off on the naturalization application for a while.
Yeah I’m leaning more towards this. My company now is on the way out from what I can feel. Plus, 5 years but no offer of seishaiin, or shakai hoken, doesn’t look super stable in my opinion. Hence why I’m getting out. And now is the best time from what I can see.
I have some other interviews for different types of jobs too (tourism industry…living in Kyoto kind of feels like a no brainer).

I just got back from a trip to Kyoto. Kinkakuji, Arashiyama, Higashiyama were full of Chinese tourists. Nobody in Ryouanji for some reason. I guess zen rock gardens and yudoufu are out of fashion.

So after my second conversation with the business job, it seems that I won’t primarily be doing the business English immediately. They’ve lined up 3 specific jobs for me.
2 are teaching once a week at 2 different universities.
And 1 is teaching at a junior/senior high school.
I need to confirm the actual schedule but it seems ok. Just quite inflexible with regards to holiday. I’m not travelling or anything but there are occasional random days that I’d like off because I’ve got things already planned (my wife performing in the Fujinomori-jinja 20th anniversary taiko performance in September, for example).
It would also be quite long (for me) commute times. At least an hour each way, so I’m going to have to start waking up at 6am, in order to get there in time. I know I know, 1st world problems. But I do have sleep apnea and have ALWAYS struggled to wake up early, no matter how long I actually sleep for. This isn’t me being a baby or anything but is obviously something I have to consider.
The other thing was they said that this particular contract is only renewable twice (so a total of 3 years). Something to do with a restructuring due to changing nature of the industry. He was quite open and honest about the possibility of not being able to renew further than that.

So all this has kind of knocked the wind out of my sails a bit.
I’m still looking for other jobs, but I don’t know where any of you guys are looking but none of the jobs that I can see and qualify for pay much more than 250k a month. (I’m in Kyoto for reference).
So any advice or directions to jobs outside the usual gaijinpot, indeed, would be appreciated.

Just a small update.
I didn’t take either of the previously mentioned jobs. But I’m still looking for something.
As I asked in my last post, does anyone have any job searching website suggestions outside of the usual GaijinPot and Indeed?
(My Japanese level is between N4 and N3, and I’m some super IT wiz kid like most jobs and people seem to be doing now for reference)

Maybe J-REC? Note that you can switch to english "EN" upper right, but the caution is that the english and japanese version of the site are absolutely NOT mirror images of each other--tho not always the listings are different more often than not. Perhaps better thought of as two different sites.
