As im sure most of us have I spent a while working on organizing my personal finances over the last few years and have everything ticking over nicely. 10 million yen is a figure that has been mentioned on the site as a good first goal but I was wondering what everyone feels "counts" towards that,
Obviously cash in the post office and I assume money in the NISA seem to count but what about your IDECO or company DC plan or Money paid in to the UK pension or Equity on your home?
Just trying to figure out how close I am to that goal!
What do you count towards your first 10 million yen?

It's entirely up to you, really
I count cash savings, investments in NISA, iDeCo, and taxable.
I don't count things (cars, clothes, furniture, etc.), my home, or nenkin/UK state pension contributions.

I'm the same as Ben - count cash and investments but not home, car, possessions or government pensions.

This comes directly from the first 100,000 USD, as made famous by Charlie Munger. In its originally sense, it was taken to mean only invested Income. That is how I treat it.
No cash holdings, pension, future payouts etc. Current investments only.
However, I would suggest a sliding scale.
First 100k (Total assets) ---> First 100k (Invested assets) ---> First 100k (100% tax sheltered NISA/IDeco etc).

I count only IDECO, NISA and an insurance policy cause I can get to it. (if need be) Anything else is essential to life.

Thanks everyone!
Yeah this is kind of what I was figuring, I guess the only was to count it is the current value of what I have in the NISA / iDeCo as it fluctuates?RetireJapan wrote: ↑Fri Nov 08, 2024 2:16 am It's entirely up to you, really

Well, it's your goal to set. As long as it serves your needs and helps you get to where you want to be, it will work.
