I have received a large remittance recently (a gift from my mum) which I will be declaring (and paying tax) to the authorities next year.
I would like to ask if anyone here has had a tax inquiry sent to them after receiving such a remittance from overseas?
If so, what kind of information were you asked to provide?
My understanding is that the information the bank sends to the zeimusho is fairly detailed already so they should know the purpose of the remittance and who sent it, but Japanese sites I read say people often receive inquiries.
