Heron Catchers

Post by TJKansai »

I just finished the Heron Catchers by David Joiner.

Having been to Yamanaka Onsen/Kanazawa made it a fun read for me.

The protagonist's wife empties his bank account and runs off leaving him broke and unemployed. The stuff that gives expats nightmares of course.

Yikes.

This is not the reason my wife and I have separate accounts, but it does make that kind of scenario less likely

Thanks--I've looked that up on amazon, along with his one titled Kanazawa. Added to a buy list.

(and both reviewed well)

The only things your wife needs to drain your bank account are your inkan and your bank book.

Ah, but I have neither (account is online and uses a signature). Also there's not much money in my bank accounts. Broker accounts would be a little trickier to get into.

She's at more risk as I handle all her accounts

He'd never withdraw everything as the pain of the capital gains tax hit would be too much to bear.

Ha, ha, I need to build a 'net of capital gains tax' line into my spreadsheet
