Kokumin hoken after quitting full time job

Post by freddyfreeway »

If I quit my full time job in my 50s and just want to pay for kokumin hoken myself, how much will it cost me?

I will need coverage for myself, my wife, and son. Last year my salary was just a bit over 4 million yen.

Thanks in advance!

Depends where you live and how much your salary was in the previous year.

Where do you live?

Search '<your city, ward, town or vlillage> NHI Guidebook 2023' - Look around Page 10...

Kokumin Kenkou Hoken - Per Month (10 months from May to Feb - Mar and Apr off)
consisting of:

Basic Health Insurance
Per Household Charge + Per Person Charge x 3 + about 0.8% of last year's salary

Latter Life Care Insurance
Per Household Charge + Per Person Charge x 3 + about 0.2% of last year's salary

Long-Term Nursing Care Insurance
Per Household Charge + Per Person over 40 Charge x 2 (??) + 0.16% of last year's salary

Plus

Kokumin Nenkin

Per Person 18 (2??) - Y16,520 x 2 = Y33,040

Look at this other thread:

If you're full time and leaving that, the situation will be similar--and continuing with your present insurance system (for two years, since it's also your wife and child), will likely be the best path to follow.

Of if not, do some serious number-crunching and check on this. (it's almost always better to continue with what you have)
