What happens with your NISA when you die

Post by styxomaniac »

Hello everyone,

I am curious because I’ve searched around and did not find anyone discussing this. So, what happens to your NISA investment when you suddenly die? I understand that for iDeCo, the lump sum gets transferred to the next of kin (designated beneficiaries include the deceased’s spouse, children, parents, grandchildren, grandparents, and siblings).

NISA is just part of your estate, like any bank accounts, real estate, or possessions. It will be paid out to your heirs.

I wonder if you can keep it around tax free for as long as possible…
