Strategic date of the month for NISA 24 tsumitate
Strategic date of the month for NISA 24 tsumitate
In my ongoing series of possibly stupid questions...
I'm setting up my NISA 2024 tsumitate to max out every month, but wondering what date to specify.
I'm guessing there isn't but, just in case, thought it might be worth asking: is there traditionally any cunning strategy to consider for this?
(For example, stocks always do better at the beginning of the month, so 1st of the month is a bad idea. Stuff like that?)
Thank you!

Invest the money as quickly as you can, this is statistically the best strategy. No secret sauce here.

Re: Strategic date of the month for NISA 24 tsumitate
I saw something on a Tokyo TV show about this recently, and the 3rd was suggested as a good day of the month to set. There were others too.
Bad days were those round number types, like 10, 20… 5, 15, 25 also not optimal.
Just from memory.
I imagine this is not going to have that much of an impact though.

Would be interesting to see the thinking behind the 3rd and the round numbers!
In an effort to minimise faffing about, "invest the money as quickly as you can" seems to be my default go-to.
I'll probably stick to that.
Thanks.

Re: Strategic date of the month for NISA 24 tsumitate
Just saw this Nikkei article: https://t.co/V6kGc1W7Ht
It says that 1,000 oku yen worth went into the eMAXIS All Country fund in a single day (the 9th). This was apparently not far short of the entire inflows to that fund in all of December 2023.
NISA mentioned as having a role, but that’s as much as I have access to read.
Not sure what this means for the global stock market as a whole, but at least if one wanted to front run the local NISA orders, then orders at the beginning of the month may make best sense for that reason too.
This was just after a 3 day holiday, so not sure this is really a regular thing though. I’m sure lots of Japanese folks will go into excruciating detail analyzing these trends in weeks ahead

I went with the 'as quickly as you can' 1st in the end, both for the tsumitate part and the full amount for the other bit, with new yen.
Glad I did now.
One extra benefit is not having to think about it anymore.

I am going on 1st, 8th, 16th and 24th, I think. (I was even playing with the idea of making a purchase every day.)

Tsumitated the tsumitate (10 万, via Rakuten card/cash). Taking Adamu's suggestions to heart about habits
Sold taxable assets and rebought in Growth. 240万
Sold and rebought in 80万 portions to limit "risk".

Re: Strategic date of the month for NISA 24 tsumitate
This is probably the sensible way. I will have to pay tax on the gains in the tokutei account and still not sure about this. So I have sold and rebought about 1M yen so far. I may wait a few more months for the rest...or I may pull the plug and sell.Tsumitate Wrestler wrote: ↑Thu Jan 11, 2024 5:08 am Tsumitated the tsumitate (10 万, via Rakuten card/cash). Aiming to retire at 60 and live for a while longer. 95% index funds (eMaxis Slim etc), 5% Japanese dividend stocks.

I'm doing tsumitate 100,000 a month and selling taxable to rebuy in growth.
Did 800,000 this month and will hope for a stronger yen for the next two 800,000 chunks.
Don't think it will make much difference long term though.
