Cheap gym alternatives around Tokyo?

Post by AdultingInJapan »

Anyone here know any cheap gyms alternative? I'm with Anytime Fitness and it costs at least 8000 to 9000 yen. While I love the fact that I can go any branch at any time, I would love to lower the costs of the gym by at least 3000 yen or more :| . I go almost every day to the gym. I know Ward community gyms are there but its too....idk.... not as well kept as the other gyms  . And the operation times do not match my schedule. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! :D

This company has expanded something big time in our local city, and I think it's a national network, under 3000 yen and 24 hours a day.

If you go every day that sounds like a pretty good use of your money to me, especially considering the health benefits.

Of course you can also workout for free at home and go jogging outside.

Before I went to アクトス but since I moved I switched to Chocozap.

It's not the best gym, the phone support is subpar. However, it is cheap, it is open 24 hours and the machines there are good enough.

I'd say if you are consistent and want more then at some point you can switch to Anytime or Konami gyms. I'm going liek 4-5 times a week and still haven't felt the urge to switch to the big gyms

If you really wanted to be frugal (or just cheap like me  ) you could hit the local outside parks. My local park has dip bars and a pull-up bar. Open 24/7 but you would have to deal with cold/hot/rainy weather. I normally run outside, hit the park for bodyweight exercises and stretch on a mat at home. As I've got a weight bench and some light weights at home, I can also do some weight training there. I have been doing bodyweight exercises for some time now and haven't had a membership to a gym for probably 20 years. Cheap gyms are available but I'd just prefer to invest that cash. To each his own.

Our public gyms have training rooms that are cheap (¥300/per time). The equipment is usually limited and older, but generally adequate and saves you having clutter in your home. Also allows you to work out in bad weather.

One place we visit has a pool (additional ¥500).

Two places I know of charge ¥500 for parking, but one is free.

As to whether Tokyo has such places, I have no idea.

I guess you are looking for gyms near where you live or work.

If you live near Oyamadai (on the Oimachi line), Setagaya-ku:
https://www.se-sports.or.jp/facility/oyamadai/
It's a bit small but costs only 140 yen.

Yakumo gym (Meguro) costs 300 yen

If you work or live in Shibuya-ku, gyms such as
https://www.city.shibuya.tokyo.jp/shise ... ugaku.html
(near Daikanyama) are FREE, assuming you are retired. (although I guess you might not yet be retired ;)

There are lots of other cheap alternatives (gym at Kinuta Koen (Setagaya-ku) 80 yen an hour) if of retirement age.

I've got a pull up tower, gymnastics rings, weight vest, and dip belt at home. Works great — can do pretty much anything. Reckon it cost 30k for everything.

Bit late, but if you live or work in Minato Ku they have a new-ish sports complex in Tamachi/Mita.

Non residents/workers can use it also, but just have to pay a little bit more.
