Rakuten asking for zairyu card info
Just got the dreaded email from Rakuten Securities, asking all foreign customers to register their period of stay. Now, the positive side is that they are not asking for a copy of zairyu cards yet.
However, they are confusing period of stay (unlimited for PR) with duration of zairyu card. Do they not understand the difference, or just not care?
I don't want to give them a reason to start hassling me again when my card expires and I renew it automatically.
Also, the name on my Rakuten (and bank) accounts is NOT the same as the name on my zairyu card, and I predict if I give it to them they are going to mess everything up.
Did everyone else get the email?

Yes, my message specifically stated you need to upload a picture.
It also specifically stated that if your have PR you need to enter the expiry date of your card.
Check the message that appears in Rakuten Securities in their stupid spammy interface.

Is that on the second screen of the process? I noped out after the first screenTsumitate Wrestler wrote: ↑Wed Oct 25, 2023 9:49 am Yes, my message specifically stated you need to upload a picture.
Oh, I got that they wanted the expiry date of the card, but I don't understand why that is relevant. The period of stay is unlimited (as it says on the card). Not that I expect this kind of thing to make sense...

My guess? It's a pain to design two systems. The programmer wanted a one size fits all data entry system for all foreigners.RetireJapan wrote: ↑Wed Oct 25, 2023 9:57 amIs that on the second screen of the process? It's usually nothing nefarious just laziness (or cheapness).
I let you know in 2030 if they want an updated photo....
Their vague threat of account restrictions if I didn't comply worked on me. My Nisa and iDeco are with them.

Monex sent me something similar last year and I ignored them. So far so good...
But I have a lot more money with Rakuten

I didn't get that email (yet) but I am pretty sure I sent a copy of my zairyu card back when I opened my Rakuten account. In fact, I just another copy of the front and back of the card to apply for their 2024 NISA.
Re: Rakuten asking for zairyu card info
Got the email. Thought about waiting for the "tokusoku" through the snail-mail or a second email. But looking at people here going through with the process, I might as well send it too.
I am concerned about having to move out of Japan for work, for a limited time, and losing access to NISA or worse cashing out at a low.

Pretty painless.

I am holding off because my zairyu card name is not the same as the name on my account and bank accountTsumitate Wrestler wrote: ↑Thu Oct 26, 2023 10:27 am お客様情報の変更手続きが完了しました。

They say they require additional documents in that case.
I dread to think of quite how badly that could go wrong.
Might be easier to just naturalise first
