Not directly related to retirement or personal finance, but this story reminded me a bit of what happened to Ben:

Re: Contracts, dodgy universities
I am part-timer uni lecturer and have no desire to go full time. I have found that universities have interpretated the five- and ten-year rules in completely different ways. I have friends who are now on the second round of five-year six-month breaks, which is quite frankly ridiculous. On the other hand, the uni where I work most of the time have gone out of their way to offer an unlimited contract this year, guaranteed employment until 65, this is the type of place I want to keep on working at.

Good on Luc Loosveldt sticking up for what is right and persevering the nearly 4 years it took for the courts to conclude this case.

I'm impressed with his determination and with the court's decision.

Re: Contracts, dodgy universities
We have a lot of non-teaching staff who have to move on after five years. It is frustrating, as most are very competent and it is a shame to let them go. Bean counters at work in the back office make the decisions though, not us.
