Opening a broker account

Post by RetireJapan »

Merry Christmas everyone :)

When I opened my first account with Rakuten Securities (a while ago) I think they called me up to basically check my Japanese.

Does this still happen? I have a potential coaching client that wants to open an account but can't read. I can help them but not if they run into checks etc.

I remember having been called as well when I opened my account in early 2017.

Merry Christmas,

I opened an account with them a few months ago. It was all done online.
I don't think they called me to just check my Japanese.
They sent me a letter when my name didn't match my ID.
I think the only call they make is to verify your workplace, so you should let your workplace know to expect their call.
When I signed up for my Rakuten Bank account later, they called my work again.

Great. Thanks Mike.

I guess they have had a lot more foreign customers recently and can't be bothered to keep doing the extra work ;)
