Name and Japanese forms

Name: the most fun part when signing up things for non-Japanese here in Japan

Is there some kind of established rule on how to enter names?

Lately I've been going with "FirstName" for 性 and "MiddleName LastName" for 名. I don't remember if I've verified anything with this name order. I kind of got the idea from this although I still flip around first name for 性.

Previously I had "FirstName MiddleName" for 性 and "LastName" for 名. This is probably the most used one and I know it's usually accepted when verification against resident card is required.

And even earlier I used "LastName" for 性 and "FirstName" for 名. This one occasionally trip up verification although in some cases (rakuten securities/ideco), tacking MiddleName after FirstName and sending extra documents were enough to convince them to accept it.

It doesn't work in some other cases though (駿河屋) and I wasn't interested in dealing with their customer support and the verification passed through after I flipped my name. Also I think paypay flipped my name when doing verification and thus broke the link with paypay bank because the name ended up not matching even though it used to work before they required additional verification.

And for furigana, some forms tripped when they ask it in hiragana and reject "ー" character. I think I usually end up either replacing it with い (kind of how it's voiced) or skipping it altogether.

I probably should decide on something consistent but I don't know what it is. Any suggestion? I wonder how others fill in their name in forms

Bonus story:
rakuten mobile rejected my rakuten card. It worked when I gave it my amazon card

rakuten securities also rejected my rakuten card. I still need to deal with this one eventually which I suspect involves changing name on the credit card which means updating card registration in places it's currently used. I'm slowly moving things to other card but some preorders I did are locked in and I don't want to risk problem with payment so I'll do that one once things are cleared up.

I use Last Name for 性 and First Name for　名.

I have struggled with using Katakana or spelling my name in English during these sign-ups. Had some issues with connecting an additional card from Rakuten to my existing rakuten e-navi account due to Katakana/English mess up.

And I also have special feeling of despise and contempt for 半角・全角　BS!

性 is "Family Name" or "Surname" and 名 is "First Name", "Christian Name", "Given Name", and optionally "Middle Name".

I think mizuho (the very first bank account I had) had the form with name field in just one long field. When I tried using it for amazon (smbc) card payment using their online system, it worked right away if I flip my name in smbc form (first+middle name in 性 and last name in 名). I think. It's been years.

Lately I've had more luck by doing that in more places (as in fewer failing form/verification). Am I the only one doing this

edit: It just occurred to me that some passport do have family name and given names listed separately. That's not the case for my passport which is just one full name entry. There's no legal document for me showing which one is given name and which one is family name. Even for my health insurance card my name is written as in passport name order except in katakana.

(I guess my passport does show first, last, etc names in the correct field on its machine readable zone. but the visual inspection zone it's just one long name in first-middle-last name order)
