Where to keep emergency fund?

Post by Roger Van Zant »

I want to keep an emergency fund of six months' living expenses.
For me, this is 1.8 million yen.

I feel like keeping this in my shitty Japanese bank account is a waste.
Is there somewhere I can keep this money where it can work a little for me, earn some interest?

Obviously, it can't be too tied up, because I may need to access it in a pinch.

Any ideas?

Cliffnotes: There's nothing worth your time.

Longer explanation: interests rates are low in Japan, therefore "risk free" debt offers little returns, and bank and term deposits pay little.

To get more return, you would need to add risk, with is not appropriate to emergency savings.
