So, I`m still trying to open an SBI Neobank account with their mobile app and I have another problem. My name is more than 17 characters and 17 is the max characters they allow for your name.

Does anyone know the solution to this problem?

Thank you.

Request a paper application.

That's how I received an SBI neotrade account and Shinsei bank account.

However, I am dragging my feet on switching over from Yucho as
everything is connected and automated already. I fear tempting fate.

I wonder if this advice from the razor sharp minds at Neobank themselves applies in your case..

Of course you’ll still likely end up speaking to people or being directed to a paper based route. Things may get lost in the post, lost in translation, patience may be lost and even tempers might be lost. Rest assured these are just indications the system working perfectly as per design.

In unrelated news. It’s not long now before I retire to compile my collection of essays titled “An English man’s journey to self enlightenment via the age old Japanese practice of opening a £$¥€ing bank account.”

I’ve also noticed many folk far smarter than me are saying that Customer Service will be an early fatality of chatgp levels of “AI”. I suspect these people have not had my experiences of Japan banking customer service. Is it able to replicate the mistakes, general confusion, ignoring me until I hopefully give up, buffering essential information to protract the experience to durations rarely seen outside of biblical stories, and more.

Right now I’m waiting on a call back from the tax office as to why my previously successful and registered bank account for 公金受け取り has failed this time. I’m sure we’ll discover the cause was me and “It’s lamentable that it inadvertently worked last time” or some other such conveniently face saving explanation. When what they really want to scream at me is.
“Another name! We’ve never heard of such denominative gluttony.”

This year I have been trying to do the reverse order - I have a Sumishin SBI net bank account, and sought to open an SBI securities account.

After doing it via snail mail, I log in to my SBI securities account and find they have butchered my English name as well as my katakana name.

It is not the first time I have had name troubles with SBI group affiliates… suspect I am going to stick with Monex.
