This week I sent off my application for contributing voluntarily to the UK pension (thanks everyone).
I applied for Class 2, but from reading around the forum it seems that Class 2 and 3 are bestowed quite randomly, so was wondering what people applied for and what people ended up getting.
Thought others might be wondering the same thing, so I made a poll. Looking forward to seeing the results.

Hopefully get some good data
Hahaha, thought that was a high possibility! People can change their vote, so once they know they can update their position.Wales4rugbyWC19 wrote: ↑Sat Nov 05, 2022 3:51 amI was being slightly sarcastic, but maybe it does merit being a choice....
Re: UK Pension Class 2/3 Applied vs Got
In my case: Applied for Class 2, and got completely rejected for not meeting any of the criteria. Applied again for Class 2 with a cover letter pointing out that I actually meet all the criteria. Then got accepted to pay Class 2.

Patience and persistence are required!
Aiming to retire at 60 and live for a while longer. 95% index funds (eMaxis Slim etc), 5% Japanese dividend stocks.

Some good news from Jeremy Hunt's Autumn Statement yesterday:
"State pension payments and means-tested and disability benefits to increase by 10.1%, in line with inflation."
https://www.bbc.com/news/business-63555313
For UK citizens in Japan paying Class 2 and Class 3 NI contributions, this is good news.
The 10.1% increase far outstrips any inflation here in Japan.
Let's just hope the UK government continues to allow us to pay in from Japan for many more years to come....
