I’m curious to know if folks here always include their spouse’s assets when discussing their portfolio?
I believe both Japan and many US states have community property laws but it seems Japanese couples typically keep separate accounts (hidden or otherwise) and seem to talk about their own money as such.
In the US I have always had a joint account with my spouse and, while there, thought of our combined assets as a one portfolio. Here in Japan I find myself unconsciously separating the two portfolios depending on the topic or the person I’m talking to. This may partially be due to requirement of using two taxation systems
(Maybe this could be a survey question). Not sure how to set that up.

On Google Sheets
Pg.1 My investments/bank account-
Pg.2 Her Investments/bank account-
Pg.3 Sons investments/bank account
Pg.4 Detailed combined assets
Pg.5 Simplified combined assets.
Money-tree - All bank accounts and Credit cards shared on one account. We both can log-in.

Re: Include Spouse’s Assets in Portfolio?
Just to clarify, when I said including their spouse’s assets in their portfolio- I meant adding the two together, when talking about “my portfolio” here on the Retire Japan form.
Sorry,I think the wording in my initial post was a bit confusing.

Oh i See. My wife and I are partners in investing etc.
When I talk about investments, I mean my personal investments unless stated otherwise (see signature).
When talking about emergency fund, insurance etc - This would be shared assets.
As far as philosophies, it is mostly shared.
Myself -> 100% global equities
My wife -> 80% developed equities/20% developed bonds
Son -> 100% global equities.
(My wife does not want to invest in China).
