We are going to take advantage of this great deal!

Edit: We decided to visit Sendai for the first time.

If your vacation is short, you might also consider the JR Flex Pass for any foreign passport holders in your family. Apparently it's ok for Japan residents, and includes some "experience" coupons in the ticket price as well: https://www.jrtours.co.jp/en/flex/tokyo/

Thank you, but they are not processing tourist oriented passes ATM
We are temporarily suspending the sales of products to prevent the spread of the coronavirus infection.
Also, some of our stores are closed on a temporary basis or have shortened hours of operation.
Thank you for your understanding.

Isn't that the same pass we discussed above? It seems sales are paused ATM?

Also, I suspect people want avoid their spouses to avoid paying full price! :)

Each JR company has their own passes. The one above that isn’t being sold is for JR Central but the JR East passes are still being sold. If you have a look at the websites for each JR company, you can see which passes are being sold and whether they are allowing foreign residents to buy them or not. If your spouse is Japanese, then the one you originally mentioned is probably best.

Have used the JR East Tohoku pass 3 times now. Great value. Perfect for getting up to Tohoku by Shinkansen and then riding the local trains. However, several lines have been knackered by recent rains so check the JR East website before going.

Have a good trip!
