Hi all
I’ve had a Rakuten credit card for about 2 years now, a JCB type. And I’m sick of it. You can’t use it in so many shops it’s ridiculous.
I can’t even use it on some shops on Rakuten Ichiba.
So I’d like to change it to a Visa.
Is there a simple (wishful thinking I know) process for this?
On the Rakuten card site I keep getting an error any time I click the “change card” button. I also get a message pop up saying I can’t make 2 cards with my current card (but keep getting emails saying I should make a second card for my family member).
If I can’t just simply switch, do I have to just make a new card from scratch? I can’t see an option for that on my Rakuten card account.
Thanks in advance.

Re: Rakuten credit card change
Rakuten is pushing us all to get a second card. I get these offers all the time.

I can’t apply. But I don’t know why.

What is your current card? I bet it's the one that's a hybrid connected to Rakuten Bank.
If so, then according to this, you will need to cancel it, and apply for a new one from scratch.

I have no idea. I pay off the card from my Rakuten bank account so I guess that’s likely.adamu wrote: ↑Mon Aug 29, 2022 3:37 pm What is your current card? I bet it's the one that's a hybrid connected to Rakuten Bank.

When you say “from scratch”, do you mean make a new Rakuten card? Or a new card account. Because I can’t see on my current account page a place to just make a new card. Or is that because I need to cancel my current one first?

You do not know if you have a credit card or a bank card? Does it say Rakuten Bank on your card? 楽天銀行
Re: Rakuten credit card change
Mine says
“楽天銀行CREDIT CARD”.
“楽天銀行CREDIT CARD”.

Re: Rakuten credit card change
You have a Rakuten bank debit/credit card. Not a Rakuten Card.
Looks like only JCB is available. https://www.rakuten-bank.co.jp/card/rc/
I would suggest applying for a standard Rakuten card. You'll most likely need to apply from scratch, be sure to find a point campaign link when you apply.
Re: Rakuten credit card change
Why can they never make things simple?
Okay, so when you say make a new one from scratch, I assume I can do it with my current Rakuten account? As in I don’t need to make a new Rakuten account or a new card account right?
